Mindful Embodied Anger - (MEA)

Many of us have been taught to stuff it, deny it, fear it or spiritually bypass it.

Mindful anger that we can stay with, ground in and keep our lid flipped on when we feel it can be important information and a diamond in the rough of our somatic awareness and personal transformation.

Without being able to mindfully stay with and ground when we experience anger while practicing dual awareness when it comes up, setting boundaries, finding our voice and mobilizing our resources for change in our lives can lead to paralysis or at the very least, feeling very stuck. We also might be falling into the trap of labelling the activation of anger as anxiety instead limiting our capacity to listen to what sensations in our bodies are trying to alert us to or communicate to us.

Most of us equate anger with violence or toxicity, not important information or physical energy we can learn to direct and master. And without harnessing the energy of anger to move some of us out of habitual traumatic stress responses of submit or freeze, we will be staying on the hamster wheel of trying to habitually calm ourselves instead of reaching for more empowered vitality.

We can use embodied mindfulness with a nervous system, biopsychosocial and trauma informed lens to start listening to, respecting and discerning what the physical sensations of anger are trying to tell us.

When to listen, when to act or not, and how to use anger as a tool for increased personal power, not dominance over others. And how to fear it less in ourselves while using our own anger to keep ourselves safer out in the world.
